Laying Out The Collar Ties
Set the framing square
on the collar
tie, as shown in figure 41, so the
unit of run 250 and
rise 150 are on the same lower edge. Mark and cut the tie. Collar ties
are made up of not less than 38 mm by 89 mm (1.5 inches by 3.5 inches)
stock. They should be installed (preferably) horizontally along the
midpoint of the rafter when the slope is 1 to 3 or greater. If the
collar tie is 2400 mm (7.87 feet) or greater, it must be laterally
supported near
its centre by a continuous a 19 mm (3/4 inch) by 89 mm (3.5 inch)
ribbon.
