The lot surveyor will first
determine the four corners of the lot.
See figure 1. Reference points on the zoning map, such as
curbs, road
centres
and
special monuments, will help determine the precise
location
of
the two
front corners of the lot. At each
of the four corners, 50 mm (2 inch)
by 50 mm (2
inch) wooden stakes called hubs are driven into the ground
flush to
the surface. Nails are driven into the
stakes precisely at each corner.
These are called property points or survey points.
