| Trenches and excavations must be sloped or shored if they are over 1.22 metres or 4 feet in depth. Trenches dug in loose, sandy and unstable soil must be supported by uprights, cross braces and stringers. The maximum spacing between stringers is 5 feet (1500 mm). |
